The Weapons of Woodmyst: The Woodmyst Chronicles Book IX by Robert E. Kreig is part of a continuing epic fantasy centered on Alice Gyfford Warde, a young woman who leads the forces fighting against the Maji, a sorcerer of great power. The Maji has mustered forces of his own, gathering both human and nonhuman fighters. He has taken seven wives to strengthen his magic, and his sole purpose is ultimately to rule all lands, regardless of the cost in human lives and the destruction of towns, cities, and the natural world. As Alice gathers an army of imperfect allies, representing a diverse mix of races and creatures, she is very much aware of her inadequacies and her desire to begin a family of her own. Can she set aside such human distractions to lead her friends and allies to victory over the Maji?
Robert E. Krieg’s The Weapons of Woodmyst has established characters and themes. This is a well-written book with strongly conceived characters. Krieg has created a classic fantasy epic of good and evil peopled with some stock creatures, such as dragons and the fiendish Khadzh, but with very real and flawed human characters as well. This is no mere rehash of other fantasy series. The author has built a richly detailed and original world, harsh and dark in many respects, making it akin to certain past dark ages of our own world. His writing is very readable and appealing. Readers of epic fantasy will enjoy this book and will certainly want to read all of The Woodmyst Chronicles.

Robert E. Krieg’s The Weapons of Woodmyst has established characters and themes. This is a well-written book with strongly conceived characters. Krieg has created a classic fantasy epic of good and evil peopled with some stock creatures, such as dragons and the fiendish Khadzh, but with very real and flawed human characters as well. In The Weapons of Woodmyst: The Woodmyst Chronicles Book IX by Robert E Kreig, Isabel looks on in horror as Takmel uses sorcery in his plans to destroy his enemies. As the harsh winter sweeps across their territory, Isabel feels even colder inside. The love she once felt for the Maji is continuously turning into a powerful force of hatred. Takmel is the wicked Maji who will stop at nothing to continue his reign and subdue everyone who is against him. Meanwhile, Alice the young ruler is in pursuit of Takmel. She commands a vast force that is determined to rid the continent of the Maji and his supporters. Though young, Alice is set on dethroning Takmel. Still, there will be a cost and many will lose their lives before the prospect of achieving conquest.

The Weapons of Woodmyst is a work of fantasy fiction penned by author Robert E Kreig, and forms the ninth volume of The
Woodmyst Chronicles. As the saga continues, we once again follow intrepid young heroine Alice Warde, the Kayl’sro of the Agrodien, as she continues her magical journey for justice with the power of her clan behind her. Alice is a dragon rider who has been through much already, but in this instalment her past comes back to haunt her once again as she vies to defeat the sorcerer Maji, whom she knew long ago as a childhood friend.
It’s been a while since I’ve entered the world of Woodmyst, and Alice has certainly grown into a mature heroine worthy of the titles and accolades that have been thrust upon her. As author Robert E Kreig develops her, the story too develops with emotional complexities and political, plot-driven issues that move the central war being waged throughout this novel, and indeed The Woodmyst Chronicles as a whole. Kreig’s prose is detailed and lavish, never once relenting in his affirmation of the powerful world he has created, packing quite a punch with significant turns of the tide in terms of the overall story line, as well as Alice’s personal growth. Overall, The Weapons of Woodmyst is a great addition to a really easy to digest epic fantasy saga with plenty of action and plot driven drama.
