Although not written as a horror, this book had me horrified. The concept (without giving away spoilers) of everyday people being used, held hostage, and made to do heinous acts in order to secure ransoms is absolutely terrifying. Especially where children are involved.

This book had me on the edge of my seat as I followed the story of a desperate mother who followed the abominable instructions of faceless individuals to save her daughter from kidnappers; other pawns held captive by this secret criminal entity.

​Twists and turns follow as the unseen mastermind spins and toils with the pieces on the board. Anybody you meet could be a link in the chain, someone unwillingly part of the minacious game.
